Public Works Department

The Hampden Public Works Department is a vital component of municipal government. This Department is responsible for a wide variety of functions within the Town. The crew is responsible for road maintenance and repairs, street sweeping, patching potholes, sidewalk maintenance and repairs, storm drain maintenance and repairs, sign maintenance, marking crosswalks, trimming, ditching, snow removal, and sand/salt operations. There is an in-house mechanic who maintains our fleet of vehicles and trucks, but who also plows in the winter. The Department also is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of town owned buildings and grounds, including parks, sport fields, and cemeteries. Public Works is also responsible for the Transfer Station, oversees the Swap Shop, and all recyclables. Additionally, although the Sewer Department is a separate enterprise entity, it has no dedicated employees and Public Works employees work in both capacities when needed. This includes sewer line maintenance, assisting with pump station maintenance, utility connections and all other sewer related duties.
